Soroti Stakeholders Urged to Join Fight Against Corruption

Stakeholders in Soroti have been called upon to actively combat corruption to improve service delivery in their communities.

Speaking during an engagement organized by Judicial service commission at Soroti City council hall on 22nd Monday 2025, Emmy Sayekwo, Deputy Registrar of the Soroti High Court, emphasized the importance of integrity and transparency in public service during an engagement organized by the Judicial Service Commission at Soroti City Council Hall.

Sayekwo urged public officials to uphold high standards of integrity and transparency, directing the police and Inspector General of Government (IGG) to apprehend corrupt officials.

Ilado Regina, Principal Legal Officer at the Judicial Service Commission, encouraged citizens to identify and report corrupt officials, promoting a collaborative approach to combating corruption.

His Royal Highness Won Ateker Raphael Otaya the Kumam cultural king called for the rigorous efforts of all Ugandans in the fight against corruption.

“I want to say that all of the Ugandans have a duty to ensure that we fight corruption headon because without fighting corruption we shall be deprived of good service delivery”, Otaya said.

He also expressed concern over the court’s delays of in settling especially land related cases.

Joshua Edogu, the district chairperson of Soroti district thanked the judicial service commission for their insight to sensitize the office bearers about corruption.

In a related development, the participants raised concerns over nonfuctionality of the Soroti City courts which would help to handle legal cases arising in the City.

In her response, her worship Hilda Bakanansa Walga the chief magistrate said they don’t her a mandate to establish the City courts but she encouraged the City dwellers to always submit in their complaints at the chief magistrate’s court.

Meanwhile, Stephen Omoding Eupa, the Assistant RCC Soroti City in his closing remarks pledged to tighten the supervisory roles and enforcement to get rid of corruption.
