When Hon. Peter Ogwang took office, the healthcare system in Ngariam County was on the brink of collapse. With only three health centers serving over 90,000 people, the situation was dire. Fast forward to today, and the landscape has changed dramatically, thanks to Hon. Ogwang’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare.
A New Era of Healthcare
Under Hon. Ogwang’s leadership, Ngariam County has witnessed significant upgrades to its health facilities. Five health centers have been elevated from Health Center IIs to Health Center IIIs, enabling them to offer critical services such as delivery, laboratory testing, and inpatient care.
Health facilities such as Ngariam HC111,Akoboi HC111,Palam HC11 and Aliakamer HC11 are some of the facilities which have benefited from Hon Ogwang`s lobbying skills.
The construction of new wards, maternity units, and installation of solar panels has ensured 24-hour service delivery.
“We have taken healthcare to the people,” says Hon. Ogwang. “By investing in primary healthcare, we are not only saving lives but also empowering our communities. Every mother who delivers safely in our health centers, every child who receives timely immunizations, and every patient who receives quality care is a testament to our commitment to a healthier Ngariam.”
Community Voices
The impact of Hon. Ogwang’s efforts is best reflected in the words of the people he serves.
“We now have a health center near our home, with a trained midwife,” says Grace Akello, a 31-year-old mother of three from Abwanget parish. “I delivered my third child safely in 2023, thank you Hon. Ogwang.”
John Okello, a Village Health Team member from Okwamomwar parish, echoes similar sentiments: “Before, we would walk 20kms to get malaria treatment. Now a new health center is just 5kms away. We even have solar lights and clean water.”
A Focus on Primary Healthcare
Hon. Ogwang’s approach aligns with the World Health Organization’s recommendations that 80-90% of health needs can be met at the primary care level. By prioritizing primary healthcare, Hon. Ogwang has reduced the average distance patients have to walk to a health center from 15kms in 2016 to less than 5km in most areas.
Local Leaders Praise Hon. Ogwang’s Efforts
“Hon. Ogwang has been a game-changer for our community,” says Charles Ikabat, the LC3 Chairman, Okore Subcounty. “His commitment to healthcare has improved the lives of our people, and we are grateful for his tireless efforts.”
As Ngariam County continues to reap the benefits of Hon. Ogwang’s healthcare initiatives, one thing is clear – his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents is unwavering.
As Hon. Ogwang aptly puts it,
“Healthcare is not just a service, it’s a fundamental right. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every individual in Ngariam County has access to quality healthcare.”
