Gweri County Residents Celebrate Major Milestone in Educational Development

By Our Reporter

AUKOT, GWERI COUNTY — The community of Aukot is celebrating a significant milestone with the near-completion of a second classroom block at Aukot Community Senior Secondary School.

What started as a stalled construction project is now nearing its final stages, thanks to the intervention of Hon. Herbert Edmund Okworo Ariko, the incumbent MP for Soroti City East and the NRM flagbearer for Gweri County in the 2026 elections.

The project, which had been stuck at the beam level for years, was revived earlier this week when Ariko’s team of engineers returned to the site to complete the work. The new block, which stands at roofing level today, will house two classrooms along with the headteacher’s and staff offices, continuing the legacy of the first block, which was also constructed under Ariko’s leadership.

Both blocks will be powered by solar energy, a sustainable solution for a community that has faced energy challenges.

Community Praises Ariko’s Commitment to Education

The community of Aukot has expressed overwhelming gratitude for Ariko’s swift action in fulfilling his pledge to complete the school building. Last year, during a tour of Gweri County, Ariko had promised the people of Aukot that he would take over the construction of the school to ensure that the education of their children would not be compromised.

“I made a promise to the people of Aukot, and I intend to see it through. Education is the foundation of our future, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that no child is left behind,” said Hon. Ariko at the commissioning of the first block.

The people of Aukot, including parents, students, and local leaders, have celebrated the completion of the building as a testament to Ariko’s commitment to the community’s progress.

“We are forever grateful to Hon. Ariko for keeping his word,” *Opolot Edor, the Ariet Village LC1 Chairperson*, told this publication at the site. “When the construction stalled, we thought we might never see our children learning in these classrooms. But now, thanks to Ariko, our children will have a proper learning environment.”

A Leader Who Delivers on His Promises

In the same vein, Ariko reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Gweri County, highlighting his dedication to improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare for the people of his constituency.

“It is not enough to talk; we must act. I will continue to work tirelessly to improve the lives of the people of Gweri. This is just the beginning,” Ariko vowed.

The community of Aukot, who are no strangers to hardship, see the completion of this project as a symbol of hope and resilience. With the second block now at roofing level, the school is set to accommodate more students, contributing to the education of future generations in Gweri County.

A Bright Future for Gweri County

As the final touches are made to the second classroom block at Aukot Community Senior Secondary School, the vision of an educationally empowered Gweri County is becoming a reality. With the leadership of Hon. Ariko, there is renewed hope for the people of Aukot and the wider Gweri region.

“This is a victory for the community, for our children, and for the future of Gweri County,” Maximiliano Alaun, the Aukot NRM Chairperson told our reporter. “We have a leader who listens, who acts, and who truly cares about our development.”

Hon. Ariko’s leadership is a shining example of the power of community collaboration and the impact of having a leader who is truly investing in the well-being of his people. As Gweri County continues to develop, it is clear that Hon. Ariko’s legacy of service is just beginning.
