The Inter-Parliamentary Games kicked off in explosive fashion as the Parliament of Uganda powered past the Parliament of Burundi with a commanding 4–1 victory at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
Thousands of passionate supporters from across the East African Community filled the stands, igniting electric energy as the tournament officially began ahead of its conclusion on December 17, 2025.

Uganda’s dominance was unmistakable with Denis Ssekabira, MP for Katikamu North, delivering a sensational hat-trick, while Ayivu West Division MP John Lematia sealed the scoreline with a well-taken goal. The team’s combined brilliance thrilled home fans and set the tone for Uganda’s campaign to defend their title.
State Minister for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, who also features as a frontline striker, expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s quest to retain the championship.

He emphasized that the games symbolize unity in the region and that hosting this year’s edition places Uganda in the regional spotlight.
“Football is more than a game; it’s a bridge connecting hearts across nations,” said Ogwang, capturing the spirit of the Inter-Parliamentary Games.

Ogwang further praised government efforts in ensuring the safety, comfort, and smooth stay of all participating nations. He noted that the strong support behind the event is a key pillar in ensuring its success from start to finish.

Denis Ssekabira, reflecting on his hat-trick performance, added, “Scoring is wonderful, but seeing our nation’s pride in every cheer is the real victory.”
