APOLIN, NGARIAM COUNTY — Tensions within Apolin Parish in Katakwi Subcounty, have taken a new turn as residents openly distanced themselves from opposition Forum for Democratic Change’s Ngariam County MP flag bearer, Loyola Apuda, citing long-standing disagreements and strained relations with the community.

Apuda, a native of the parish, has for years faced internal criticism from sections of the local leadership and residents who accuse him of fostering division and failing to align with community aspirations.

Voices From the Ground

Community members who spoke to reporters expressed frustration with what they described as Apuda’s consistent disconnect from grassroots concerns. Paulo Okoel, a resident, said the community had grown weary:

“We have had enough. Our grievances have been ignored for too long, and we cannot rally behind someone who doesn’t represent our collective interests.”

Another resident, Pulisikira Ijepat, echoed similar sentiments, arguing that past engagements with Apuda have left community members feeling sidelined.

Ogwang Gains Momentum

In contrast, the community has thrown its support behind the incumbent MP and Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports), Hon. Peter Ogwang. Residents credit him for consistent engagement and visible development initiatives, describing his leadership as practical and forward-looking.

“Minister Ogwang has demonstrated commitment through tangible service delivery,” Ijepat noted. “We believe continuity under his leadership offers a clearer path for the constituency.”

A Setback for Apuda?

Political observers view the community’s public rejection as a significant setback for Apuda’s campaign, particularly given that it originates from his home parish. With local backing being a key pillar in rural electoral politics, the development is expected to shift dynamics as campaigns intensify.

Ogwang Responds

Hon. Ogwang, who has recently raised concerns about what he termed Apuda’s obstruction of community projects such as an earth dam, community hall, and borehole, welcomed the endorsement with humility.

“I am grateful for the confidence the Apolin community has shown,” he said. “I remain committed to working tirelessly for the people of Ngariam County.”

Looking Ahead

With the general elections drawing closer, Apolin Parish is emerging as a focal point in the broader contest for Ngariam County.

As community sentiments continue to shape the political landscape, candidates are expected to intensify their outreach in a bid to consolidate support before voting day.
