Soroti District has secured an additional UGX 300 million for critical education infrastructure, further cementing the growing reputation of Gweri County MP-elect Herbert Edmund Ariko as a relentless and results-driven mobiliser.
The funding, confirmed in a March 26, 2026 communication from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, will support the construction of teachers’ houses at Amoroto Primary School in Awaliwal Sub County and Dokolo–Gweri Primary School in Gweri Sub County.
This comes on top of the earlier UGX 1.9 billion allocation to Soroti District, widely attributed to Ariko’s sustained lobbying efforts at the national level.
A Momentum of Results for Gweri County
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the additional funding as a continuation of tangible gains delivered under Ariko’s leadership, even before he officially assumes office as Gweri County MP.
Speaking to our reporter, Ariko attributed the success to persistence and strategic engagement.
“Development does not come by chance—it is pursued, negotiated, and secured. I made a commitment to the people of Gweri that their voice would be heard at the centre, and this is just the beginning. We are focusing on improving learning conditions for our children and welfare for our teachers,” he said.
Leaders Applaud Ariko and Government
Awaliwal Sub County LC3 Chairperson-elect Hon Peter Ebau praised both Ariko and the NRM government for prioritizing rural education infrastructure.
“This is a clear sign that when leaders work closely with government, services reach the people. We thank Hon. Ariko for standing firm for our communities and the NRM government for responding positively to these needs,” Ebau noted.
Similarly, Gweri Sub County LC3 Chairperson-elect Hon Moses Ojaacor commended Ariko for consistently delivering results for the constituency.
“Dokolo–Gweri Primary School has long needed staff accommodation. This intervention will improve teacher retention and performance. Hon. Ariko has shown that he is a leader who follows through on his promises,” Ojaacor said.
Track Record of Service and Transformation
Ariko, the outgoing Soroti City East MP, has built a strong track record of service across the region, with notable interventions in water access, road rehabilitation, and rural electrification under the “power for all” drive.
Communities in Gweri County and beyond have benefited from improved borehole coverage, upgraded road networks, and expanded electricity connectivity—efforts that have boosted livelihoods and local economic activity.
With the latest funding secured for education infrastructure, optimism is high that Gweri County is entering a new phase of accelerated development under MP Ariko’s stewardship.
