Kampala — A significant boost has been injected into cultural preservation and community transformation efforts in Teso following a landmark engagement between the Iteso Cultural Development Foundation (ICUDEF) and renowned businessman Sudhir Ruparelia.
During a meeting held at his office in Kampala, Dr. Ruparelia fulfilled a pledge of UGX 50 million in support of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aligned with the Iteso Cultural Union’s development programmes. The contribution is expected to accelerate ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening cultural identity while driving socio-economic progress across the region.
The engagement, described as both strategic and symbolic, signals growing private sector interest in grassroots-led cultural development frameworks. It also underscores a renewed alignment between traditional institutions and modern development partners.
Speaking after the meeting, ICUDEF Executive Director Dr Eriaku Peter Emmanuel welcomed the partnership as timely and transformative.
“This contribution is more than financial support—it is a strong vote of confidence in our vision as a people. It empowers us to scale programmes that preserve our heritage while creating tangible opportunities for our communities,” Dr. Eriaku said.
“We are building a model where culture becomes a driver of development, and partnerships like this are critical in making that vision a reality.”
The ICUDEF delegation also included Director of Planning and Strategic Partnerships Ochoggia Abdallah and Team Leader for Resource Mobilization Odeu Stephen, reflecting a coordinated push towards sustainable funding and institutional growth.
Dr. Ruparelia expressed readiness to work closely with ICUDEF under the cultural leadership of His Royal Highness Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot, further cementing ties between corporate philanthropy and traditional leadership structures.
Sources within the cultural institution indicate that the funds will support a range of initiatives, including youth empowerment, cultural education, and heritage preservation programmes across Teso and the wider Ateker community.
The Emorimor conveyed deep appreciation for the gesture, noting that such partnerships are vital in securing the future of Iteso cultural identity while fostering inclusive development.
With momentum building, stakeholders now view this collaboration as a model for how cultural institutions can leverage strategic partnerships to deliver lasting community impact.
