The Minister of State for Education and Sports(Sports),Hon Peter Ogwang, has kickstarted intensive training sessions ahead of the 15th Edition of the East African Parliamentary Games, which Uganda will host in early December.

Uganda has confirmed full readiness to host the regional tournament, with logistical, medical, and venue preparations completed.

The country expects delegations from across the East African Community to participate in what is considered one of the largest inter-parliamentary sporting events in the region.

Speaking during a training session, Hon Ogwang who is also the Ngariam County Member of Parliament  said Uganda attaches great importance to the upcoming championship because it strengthens relations among partner states and promotes sportsmanship among legislators.

“These parliamentary games mean a lot to us as a country. They go beyond competition they build cooperation, friendships, and the spirit of EAC unity. We are ready to deliver an event that reflects who we are as East Africans,” he said.

According to information from the Parliament of Uganda, the Local Organizing Committee chaired by Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa has already inspected and approved all major venues. Medical partnerships have been secured, and hospitality arrangements, including accommodation for all delegations, have been finalised.

“We are ready to host East Africa. Uganda is prepared both in facilities and spirit, and we look forward to welcoming our brothers and sisters from the region,” Basalirwa said during a press briefing on November 3, 2025.

This year’s games will run from December 5 to 17 across several venues in Kampala, including Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Hams Stadium, Wankulukuku Kyambogo University, Makerere University and Namboole Stadium. Golf events will be hosted at Kampala Golf Club and Serena Golf Resort, Kigo.

Medical support for the tournament will be provided by Kampala Hospital, Nakasero Hospital, Aga Khan, and IHK, with Mulago and Nsambya Hospitals expected to join later. Basalirwa confirmed that these facilities have agreed to partner with the organising team to provide medical services throughout the competition.

Fixtures are expected to be released soon, and all matches will be open to the public free of charge. Organisers say this gesture is aimed at encouraging community engagement and boosting the spirit of regional integration.

The Parliament of Uganda, the defending champion, has vowed to retain its title despite the tight national electoral schedule.

“We cannot afford to lose on home soil. Even with a busy political calendar, we are training hard to remain on top,” Basalirwa said.

Delegations from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) have confirmed participation. The tournament will be held under the theme: One Region, One Community: Advancing Integration through Parliaments and Sports.

Kenya’s representative, Hon. Vincent Kawaya announced that both the National Assembly and Senate will compete in all eight sports disciplines. “We will take as many trophies as possible because we know Ugandans are busy preparing for elections, but what matters most is the unity these games foster,” he said, adding that Kenya fully supports Uganda’s hosting efforts.

“These parliamentary games mean a lot to us as a country. They go beyond competition they build cooperation, friendships, and the spirit of EAC unity. We are ready to deliver an event that reflects who we are as East Africans,” Hon Ogwang said.
