A senior four student at Olila High School in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda, Angela Alupo, demonstrated extraordinary courage as she sat for her UNEB exams while experiencing labour pains.

The 23-year-old student, who was eight months and three weeks pregnant, had bravely written her paper despite the intense pain, before being rushed to Soroti Health Centre III in Soroti City West.

The Head teacher Olila High School, Joseph Opio confirmed the school had to locate Angela, who had been taken to Princess Diana Health Centre IV, so she could sit her final exams.

“The most important thing is she writes her names and random number and she can continue with exams after delivery,” Mr Opio said.

Olilah High school has a total of 229 students with 125 boys and 104 girls writting for their UCE final examination this year.

Angela’s mother, Joyce Aguti, a resident of Acowa Sub County in Kapelebyong, said she was informed of her daughter’s labour pains while she was in the garden.

“I talked to my daughter on Friday and everything seemed well with her, but as I was in the garden I was called that she is in her labour,” Ms Aguti said.

Ms. Aguti prays for a safe delivery so Angela can complete her remaining exam papers.

Angela Alupo said she started feeling labour pains around 11 pm the previous night, prompting a neighbour to rush her to the hospital. She hopes for a normal delivery to enable her to sit for her remaining papers.

The story highlights Angela’s determination amidst challenging circumstances as she endeavours to complete her senior four exams.

In a related development, the exams at Soroti Municipal Senior Secondary School were delayed due to bulky documentation required from the police.

Roggers Mboizi, the head teacher of Soroti Municipal Secondary School, confirmed that the examination was delayed by 5 minutes awaiting clearance from the police.

According to the UNEB timetable, the examination was supposed to start at 9:00 am. The examination papers arrived exactly at 9:00 am.

Municipal Secondary school has a total of 99 students sitting in for their Examination.
