KATAKWI— The Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports), Hon Peter Ogwang, has embarked on a major mobilization drive across the Teso Subregion ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s campaign tour scheduled for the end of this month.

Earlier this month, the Electoral Commission officially opened campaigns for all presidential candidates. President Museveni, the flag bearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has already traversed several regions, including Central, Northern, and Western Uganda. His next destination is expected to be Teso in Eastern Uganda, where he will continue presenting his 2026 campaign agenda.

Minister Ogwang, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ngariam County, launched the mobilization activities in Toroma Town Council, Katakwi District, where the President is expected to land on November 1, 2025.

During the event, Ogwang called upon residents to turn up in large numbers to welcome the President and listen to his address.

He urged the people to use the occasion to hear about the NRM’s achievements over the past four decades and to present their pressing community needs to the Head of State for possible redress.

“We want the people of Katakwi to come and interact with the President, hear his message, and also share the challenges they face so that solutions can be identified especially in ensuring lasting peace and security along the Teso Karamoja border,” Ogwang emphasized.

As the mobilization continued in Magoro Town Council, also within Toroma County, Ogwang expressed confidence that the people of Teso would show overwhelming support for the NRM, citing visible development achievements.

He highlighted the government’s record in improving access to healthcare, enhancing peace and stability, expanding educational opportunities, and fostering economic growth as evidence of President Museveni’s commitment to transforming Uganda.

The Minister also assured the public of maximum security and safety during the forthcoming presidential rally. He noted that both local and national security agencies were working hand in hand to ensure a peaceful and well-organized event.

His outreach took him to Okore Subcounty, Ngariam Constituency, where Ogwang called upon the residents to renew their trust in President Museveni in the upcoming elections. He praised the President for his efforts in combating cattle rustling, which has long affected the Teso and Karamoja regions.

“The President has worked tirelessly to end cattle rustling, bringing peace and stability to our people. We also thank him for fulfilling his pledge to establish the Ngariam Memorial Technical Institute, built in memory of those we lost in the 2003 raids,” Ogwang stated.

He concluded by describing President Museveni as a servant leader and true patriot, urging the people of Teso to unite behind him to “protect the gains” achieved under the NRM government.
