Minister of State for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, has commended the Independent Electoral Commission for their exceptional organization ahead of the 2026 general elections. During an appearance on the Voice of Teso talk show, Ogwang expressed his confidence in the Commission’s ability to deliver free and fair elections.

“The Electoral Commission has done a commendable job in organizing free and fair nominations in the country,” Ogwang said. “This is a clear indication that the 2026 general elections will be held peacefully, in a free and fair manner.”

Ogwang’s praise for the Electoral Commission was not limited to their electoral processes alone. He also commended the police force for maintaining law and order in the country, ensuring that the ongoing presidential campaigns remain peaceful.

“So far, there have been no reports of chaos during the campaigns,” Ogwang noted. “This is a testament to the police’s professionalism and commitment to upholding the law.”

The Minister emphasized the importance of allowing all political aspirants to campaign freely, as long as they adhere to the set guidelines. “Uganda is a democratic country, and all people have the right to exercise their power,” Ogwang stated.

“We should allow all candidates to express themselves and present their manifestos to the people.”

Ogwang’s comments have been welcomed by many, who see his praise for the Electoral Commission and the police as a reflection of the government’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
