EMOKORI GROUNDS-BUKEDEA-President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM flag bearer and presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to expanding access to education in Bukedea District.
While addressing a massive crowd during the final stretch of his campaign trail in the Teso Sub-region, the President emphasized that the government remains determined to ensure every sub-county in Uganda has at least one secondary school.
Speaking at Emokori Grounds in Bukedea District, where an estimated seventy thousand people gathered—including Members of Parliament, party leaders, and flag bearers from across the Teso Sub-region—President Museveni expressed concern about the current state of education in the area.
He noted that, according to a report presented by the district party chairman, Bukedea has sixteen sub-counties but only six secondary schools. This gap, he said, undermines the NRM’s long-standing plan to bring education closer to every Ugandan child.
Museveni pointed out that the shortage of schools in Bukedea limits opportunities for many young people who must travel long distances in pursuit of secondary education. He described this as a challenge that directly affects literacy levels, economic growth, and the realization of national development goals.
“The education sector is the backbone of development,” the President told the crowd, adding that the government has already laid out a clear plan to address the imbalance. “Where there is no secondary school, we shall build one. No sub-county should remain without a school.”
The President reaffirmed that construction of new schools will begin with sub-counties that currently lack secondary education facilities. He cited Kabarwa Seed School, which is already under construction, as a model for what other sub-counties can expect in the coming months.
Museveni said the government will continue to channel resources toward education infrastructure, teacher training, and learning materials to ensure that both primary and secondary schools meet the standards required for quality learning. He also called on local leaders and parents to support the initiative by encouraging children to remain in school and by maintaining community ownership of education projects.
The President’s visit to Bukedea marked the conclusion of his campaign engagements in the Teso Sub-region, where he reiterated the NRM’s focus on education, health, and wealth creation as the pillars of transformation. He reminded residents that access to education remains central to Uganda’s long-term vision of social and economic empowerment.
As the sun set over Emokori Grounds, the vast crowd cheered the President’s pledge, viewing it as a renewed commitment to their children’s future.
For Bukedea, the promise of new schools represents not only an investment in infrastructure but also in hope—hope for a generation empowered through knowledge, opportunity, and the steady progress of a nation that continues to build from the ground up.
