OGONGORA SUBCOUNTY HEADQUARTERS-Hundreds of supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) from Ogongora Subcounty in Orungo County yesterday gathered to welcome the manifesto of Teddy Anyuk Osire, the party’s flag bearer for the Member of Parliament seat ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The launch, held in Ogongora Subcounty, marked the official start of Osire’s campaign and drew large crowds who expressed joy and confidence in her as a “redeemer” for the constituency.

The event was characterized by enthusiasm and unity as residents turned up in big numbers to listen to Osire’s message of transformation and hope. Her campaign theme focuses on infrastructure development, improved education, strengthened health services, empowerment of community groups, and the revival of cultural values areas she described as critical for the progress of Orungo.

“Orungo deserves better,” Osire declared as supporters cheered. “We cannot continue to lag behind while others move forward. My commitment is to ensure that our roads, schools, and health centers reflect the dignity of our people.”

One of the key issues highlighted in her manifesto is the poor state of the road network within the constituency. Osire emphasized that improving infrastructure is vital for trade, transport, and general development.

“The road network in Orungo is in a terrible condition. Most of our roads are muddy and impassable during the rainy season,” she said. “I have already started repairing bridges and filling potholes where possible, but a sustainable plan is needed. My goal is to lobby for lasting solutions that connect communities and open trade routes.”

Her message resonated strongly with residents who have long struggled with transport challenges, especially farmers unable to access markets during the wet season. Osire promised to champion policies that would ensure equitable allocation of road maintenance funds to rural areas.

Education was another central pillar of her manifesto. Osire expressed deep concern about the limited access to quality secondary education within Orungo. “It is painful that in all seven sub counties of Orungo, we only have one seed school,” she said. “Compare that to our neighbors in Amuria County, where each subcounty has one. Our children deserve the same opportunities.”

She pledged to lobby for the establishment of more seed schools across the constituency, noting that education is the foundation for long-term development. “When you educate a child, you empower a family and transform a community,” she added.

In the health sector, Osire promised to advocate for the upgrading of health centers to ensure that residents have access to better medical services. “We must strengthen our health system by elevating health centers from level II to level III and ensuring that Orungo finally has a functional Health Centre IV,” she emphasized. “Health is wealth, and our people deserve to live healthy lives.”

Beyond infrastructure and basic services, Osire called for unity among the people of Orungo, stressing that no meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of division. “Our strength lies in our unity,” she said passionately. “When we stand together, we can achieve what once seemed impossible. I urge the people of Orungo regardless of tribe, religion, or background to come together for the greater good of our constituency.”

She also underscored the importance of reviving and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Iteso people, which she said has been neglected for too long. “Our culture defines who we are,” Osire said. “We must bring back community festivals, traditional dances, and storytelling sessions that bind generations together. Through culture, we teach our youth respect, discipline, and love for their roots.”

Empowerment of youth, women, and community groups was another pillar of her message. Osire vowed to promote initiatives that create employment opportunities and economic independence. “I will work closely with the government to support youth groups, SACCOs, and women cooperatives with training and funding,” she pledged. “Empowerment is not just about giving, it is about creating pathways for people to thrive with dignity.”

On service delivery, Osire promised a people-centered leadership approach that prioritizes accountability and transparency. She assured voters that her office would remain open to all citizens, with quarterly meetings to assess government programs and community needs. “Leadership is service,” she noted. “I want to build a system where the people of Orungo can speak and be heard, where every shilling meant for development reaches its purpose.”

The manifesto launches also featured speeches from local leaders and NRM officials, including Amuria District NRM Administrator Binaisa Eyamu, who urged voters to rally behind all NRM flag bearers in the district, including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. “Let us stand together as a party and as a people. When we vote for our flag bearers, we are voting for continued stability and progress,” Eyamu said.

Supporters at the event chanted the slogan “Kocau Orungo” a call for change and renewal signifying their desire to shift from the current leadership under Gen. JJ Abubakar Odongo (Abongu Eong) to Osire’s vision of inclusive development.

Addressing concerns about intimidation and divisive politics, Osire called for calm and unity among her supporters. “Let us not be afraid,” she urged. “Our duty is to come out and vote. Leave the rest to security and the law. What matters is our collective voice at the ballot.”

As the sun set over Ogongora, the mood remained optimistic, with many residents expressing renewed hope for the future. For them, Teddy Anyuk Osire’s manifesto is more than a political promise it represents the beginning of what they believe could be a new chapter of unity, culture, empowerment, and transformation for Orungo County.
