She Comes Back with a Mission to Heal, Build, and Empower Bukedea
By Our Reporter
KOCEKA SUBCOUNTY-BUKEDEA — TODAY, Bukedea County awakens to a familiar rhythm — the sound of hope, of footsteps returning to the people. Hon. Rose Akol Okullu, once the Woman MP for Bukedea District, now seeks to serve again — this time as Member of Parliament for Bukedea County, running as an independent candidate.
According to the campaign schedule approved by the Electoral Commission, Hon. Akol will officially launch her campaign in Koceka Subcounty, before fanning out to other parts of the county. But this is not just another campaign. It is, in her own words, “a mission to rebuild lives from the household up.”
Her campaign theme circles around wealth creation at the family level, improved health care, and infrastructure development — priorities that directly speak to the heartbeat of Bukedea’s people.
“Our families must not just survive, they must thrive,” Hon. Akol said in an interview. “I will focus on empowering households to create wealth, and I will lobby for seed secondary schools, health centers, electricity, and piped water for every subcounty. These are not luxuries — they are necessities.”
But perhaps the most emotive pillar of her campaign is health — an area where her legacy already speaks volumes. During her tenure as Woman MP, Hon. Akol organized annual free medical camps that reached thousands across Bukedea.
She now plans to institutionalize those health camps, making them a permanent annual tradition.
“I will ensure we conduct health camps every year because there are people living with illnesses they don’t even know about — and others who can’t afford treatment,” she vowed.
Those words resonate deeply with beneficiaries of her past efforts.
Melida Itipet, a resident of Kidongole Subcounty, recalls how one of those camps saved her life.
“I would not be alive today if Hon. Akol had not brought a health camp to our subcounty,” she says softly. “That’s where doctors discovered my cervical cancer early. Hon. Akol personally arranged for my treatment in Mbale. Today, I am healthy and living my normal life again.”
Such stories ripple through Bukedea’s villages — testimonies of compassion meeting action. In markets, in churches, and under shade trees, her name stirs conversations of gratitude and renewed hope.
As she returns to the campaign trail, Hon. Akol’s message is clear and grounded: service above politics.
Her supporters describe her as “a leader who doesn’t just talk development — she delivers it.”
Today’s launch in Kakere is expected to draw large crowds from across the county — men and women eager to hear the vision of a woman who has walked with them before, and who now seeks to walk with them again.
In Bukedea, the drums are ready. The people are waiting.
And Hon. Rose Akol Okullu — servant, mother, and leader — is once again stepping forward to serve.
“Our families must not just survive, they must thrive,” Hon. Akol said in an interview. “I will focus on empowering households to create wealth, and I will lobby for seed secondary schools, health centers, electricity, and piped water for every subcounty. These are not luxuries — they are necessities.”
