KOCEKA SUBCOUNTY, BUKEDEA-The dry winds of Bukedea carried more than dust on yesterday — they carried a message of renewal, hope, and self-reliance.
Standing under the glowing mid-morning sun under a huge mango tree in Koceka Subcounty, Hon. Rose Akol Okullu officially launched her campaign for the Bukedea County parliamentary seat, declaring a spirited war on poverty and dependence.
The Independent candidate, her voice calm yet commanding, urged residents to take charge of their economic destiny through practical ventures in agriculture and value addition.
“Let us grow pawpaws, avocados, tomatoes, and plant trees. Let us rear chicken. Let us work,” she urged, her words echoing through the attentive crowd.
Akol’s message was rooted in the soil — both literally and philosophically. She called upon the youth to embrace short-term income ventures such as onion and tomato farming, pointing out their ability to yield profits within a single season.
Beyond agriculture, Akol unveiled her plan to channel Shs 50 million to each sub county from the Shs 200 million MP allocation for purchasing a vehicle, insisting that funding would go to organized village groups rather than individuals.
“I dont need another vehicle.Instead of using that money for buying a car for myself as your MP,I will channel that money to the sub counties with the first four receiving Shs 50 million each.Implore you to register in groups because that where i will focus my attention to.Lets work together. That way, we can lift each other faster,” she told the crowd.
Her blueprint for Bukedea stretches beyond the economy. She promised to lobby for new seed secondary schools, construct health centers in under-served areas, and push for piped water and electricity across all subcounties.
“You deserve an action-oriented leader — not one who sings promises but delivers nothing,” she charged.
With characteristic empathy, Akol also pledged to revive annual health camps, bringing free medical services closer to the people.
“A healthy community is a wealthy community,” she said, drawing thunderous applause.
As she toured the parishes of Omonyono, Kamago, Kateki, Koceka, and Adidinga, the turnout painted a portrait of growing confidence in her candidacy.
“We’ve lived under a missing link,” lamented Frank Omongot from Kakere village. “The incumbent gave us no tangible projects. But with Akol, hope is back.”
And for many, her candidacy carries symbolic weight.
“What a man can do, a woman can do better,” declared Atekit Mary, 66, of Kamon village. “With Akol, we’ll have a leader who listens — one who can work hand in hand with Speaker Anita Among to bring development home.”
In Bukedea’s vast plains, where resilience meets promise, Hon. Rose Akol Okullu’s campaign is more than a race — it is a call to rediscover the power of people, productivity, and purpose.
Bukedea has heard the call — and the drums of change have begun to beat.
“What a man can do, a woman can do better,” declared Atekit Mary, 66, of Kamon village. “With Hon Akol as our MP for Bukedea County, we’ll have a leader who listens — one who can work hand in hand with Speaker Anita Among to bring development home.”
