By Our Reporter I Ngariam Focus
OLUPE SUBCOUNTY,KATAKWI DISTRICT — The Minister of State for Education and Sports,(Sports) Hon. Peter Ogwang, has announced that Olupe Community School in Getom Subcounty is among six community schools in Katakwi District that have successfully secured government codes, unlocking access to state funding, infrastructure development and government-paid teachers.
Ogwang made the announcement while addressing residents of Olupe, Ojutai and Aturutur villages, describing the achievement as the result of sustained engagement with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
“In the whole district, six community schools have secured government codes out of the 34 that were tabled to the ministry,” Ogwang said.
“This shows that when leaders follow up and communities remain united, results come.”
‘I Go to Kampala to Work for You’ — Ogwang
Minister Says Representation, Not Comfort, Drives His Leadership
The Minister reiterated government policy that each parish must have a government-aided primary school, noting that the newly approved schools will gradually receive support for classrooms, staffing and learning materials.
“You elect leaders, but some of them go to Kampala to enjoy life,” Ogwang told the gathering.
“For me, I go to Kampala to represent you and work for you — to make sure services like education reach our people.”
He thanked the Olupe community for its persistence and urged residents to continue supporting government programmes, while also rallying political backing for his re-election and for NRM leaders, including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Vice President Jessica Alupo.
Community Leaders Welcome Breakthrough
Local leaders described the government code as a turning point for education in the area.
John Epedot, LC1 Chairperson of Ojutai Village, said the announcement restores hope for parents and learners.
“This school has survived on community effort. With a government code, we expect real improvement in classrooms and teaching,” Epedot said.
From Aturutur Village, Ms. Petelina Akolpr aised Ogwang’s consistency in supporting grassroots initiatives.
“He supports churches, youth groups and now our schools. This is leadership we can see,” Akol said.
Mr. Okiro James added that the development proves effective representation matters.
“This did not come by chance. It came because our leader followed it up,” Okiro noted.
The approval of government codes for six community schools is expected to ease pressure on parents, boost enrolment and improve learning outcomes across Katakwi District, as more community-founded schools transition into the public education system.
