“NRM cannot give Ngariam County Shs 700 million and give others less. That is a big lie. Even the shs 22million if you divided it among the 293 villages which form Ngariam County each village would receive shs 70,000” he emphasized

OALE VILLAGE,ALIAKAMER PARISH,KATAKWI SUBCOUNTY -The Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports) and Ngariam County MP, Hon. Peter Ogwang, has dismissed what he termed as a coordinated smear campaign aimed at tainting his name ahead of the elections, insisting that his campaign is clean, lawful, and people-driven.
Addressing journalists at his home in Oale Village, Aliakamer, Ngariam County, Ogwang refuted allegations that he received Shs 700 million from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat to “distribute to the voters at the rate of shs 50,000 each”.
A Political Lie Without Evidence
Ogwang described the claims as deliberate misinformation meant to mislead the electorate and sow confusion during the campaign period.
“No NRM Parliamentary candidate in the country has been given Shs 700 million to distribute to voters. I challenge those spreading such malice to present genuine evidence showing that NRM Parliamentary flag bearers were paid such. The electoral laws are very clear; that would be voter bribery” Ogwang said, adding that such figures are unrealistic and politically motivated.
He clarified that the only campaign facilitation he received was Shs 22 million from the NRM Secretariat, funds he said were uniformly disbursed to all NRM flag bearers across the country.
“NRM cannot give Ngariam County Shs 700 million and give others less. That is a big lie. Even the shs 22million if you divided it among the 293 villages which form Ngariam County each village would receive shs 70,000” he emphasized.
Party Campaigns Run Independently
The Minister further explained that NRM campaign activities at district level are coordinated by the party leadership, not individual candidates.
“We have a district NRM chairman who is in charge of party campaigns. They are running them independently,” he noted, distancing himself from claims of centralized or state-sponsored funding.
Clarifying Iron Sheets and Community Projects
Responding to accusations of abusing government resources, Ogwang said he requested for the iron sheets in question officially for public institutions, specifically for the reroofing of Abela, Ocwiin, and Apeuru-Aodot Primary Schools.
He also clarified that his long-standing support to religious leaders predates the campaign season and is part of his personal community outreach programs.
On the alleged livestock distribution, Ogwang explained that the goat project in Arusiakan Model Village, Katakwi Subcounty, is a State House initiative.
“I only lobbied for it and submitted the name of the Village to the Office of the President. Beyond that, I don’t know,” he said.
Firm Warning Against Forgery
The Minister issued a stern warning to individuals allegedly forging documents, including a letter purportedly from the NRM Secretariat.
“I am ready to arrest such people. Forgery and misinformation are criminal offences,” Ogwang warned.
Call For Calm As Campaigns Intensify
As the race heats up, Ogwang appealed to residents to remain calm and focused on issues rather than propaganda.
“I call upon the people of Ngariam County to remain peaceful and ignore desperate attempts to mislead them,” he said, expressing confidence that his development record will speak for itself.
Ogwang maintained that he remains firmly in the race, banking on his performance and continued engagement with the people of Ngariam County rather than what he described as politics of deception.
