OALE VILLAGE, ALIAKAMER PARISH, KATAKWI SUB COUNTY— The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership in Katakwi District has moved to calm growing political tension after allegations emerged over the handling of campaign funds meant for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and party flag bearers.
Addressing the media, the Katakwi District NRM Chairman, Mr John Robert Okiror, firmly dismissed claims of mismanagement, declaring that all party funds received in the district are intact and being utilized strictly in line with directives from the NRM Secretariat.
Chairman Owns The Process
Okiror revealed that the district received Shs 400 million, stressing that as the district party chairperson, he is the primary custodian of all resources sent from party headquarters.
“Every shilling that comes from the NRM Secretariat passes through my office. The money is safe, and it is being used according to the party guidelines,” Okiror stated, taking full responsibility for accountability.
Minister Ogwang Cleared Of Blame
In a rare public defense, the Chairman absolved Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, of any involvement in the management of the funds, insisting that any questions or concerns should be directed to him.
“If there is any loss, I should be held accountable — not Minister Ogwang or anyone else,” he said, distancing party leaders from the controversy.
Intimidation Claims Surface
Okiror also disclosed that he has faced intimidation from some independent candidates unsettled by the NRM’s growing grassroots momentum. Despite the threats, he maintained that he remains focused on strengthening the party’s structures.
“I will not be intimidated. My duty is to serve the people and the party without fear,” he asserted.
NRM Ground Campaign Gains Momentum
Providing a progress report, the chairman noted that the NRM campaign machinery has already covered 218 villages across the district, with plans underway to reach the remaining areas.
He urged party supporters and the general public to ignore what he termed as “politically motivated propaganda,” saying the NRM remains united and firmly in control of its campaign strategy.
“As a party, we are focused on service delivery and winning convincingly,” Okiror concluded.
