ORUNGO COUNTY-Tensions have risen sharply in Orungo County following remarks attributed to Gen. Jeje Odongo, the incumbent Orungo County MP who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs in which he warned individuals allegedly planning to rig votes to “write their wills” before attempting such actions.

The statement has sparked strong reactions among residents, many of whom say the comments were unnecessary, inflammatory, and misdirected.

Residents of Orungo County have firmly rejected any claims or suggestions of election rigging, emphasizing that their only intention is to freely and fairly exercise their democratic right.

They insist that their focus is on choosing a leader they believe represents their interests and aspirations and according to them, the NRM flagbearer Teddy Anyuk Osire, is the one whose leadership they say has already been tested within a few months and proven worthy of their support.

Community members argue that Gen. Odongo’s remarks are being interpreted as a tactic aimed at intimidating voters and discouraging them from backing his main rival in the constituency race.

They contend that such statements undermine the spirit of democracy and risk creating fear rather than fostering healthy political competition.

Several residents have pointed out that Orungo County has a history of  peaceful participation in elections and does not deserve to be portrayed as a hotspot for electoral malpractice.

They stress that the people are politically aware and capable of making independent decisions without coercion or threats from any political figure, regardless of their stature.

Supporters of Teddy Anyuk Osire say their candidate’s growing popularity is rooted in visible engagement with the community and a leadership style that resonates with ordinary citizens. They believe this connection, rather than intimidation, is what will ultimately determine the outcome of the race.

As the political temperature continues to rise, locals are calling for calm, respectful campaigns focused on ideas, service delivery, and accountability.

They maintain that Orungo County is ready to set the pace for a peaceful and transparent electoral process, proving that leadership is earned through trust and performance, not fear.
