ADUNGULU PARISH,OKORE SUBCOUNTY-Katakwi District is set for a major infrastructural boost as the Ministry of Works prepares to upgrade both major and community roads. The announcement came from Hon. Peter Ogwang, Minister of State for Education and Sports, during a community engagement in Adungulu Parish, Okore Subcounty.
Hon. Ogwang revealed that he personally lobbied the Ministry of Works to support Katakwi District in its road construction initiatives.
“We cannot sit back while communities struggle with poor roads. I have appealed to the Ministry of Works to ensure our district sees tangible improvements,” Ogwang stated.
Residents welcomed the development, noting that improved roads would facilitate trade, reduce transport costs, and connect remote villages to markets, schools, and health centers.
Councilors Under the Spotlight
The minister also took a critical stance on the performance of Katakwi District Councilors, questioning their role in managing government resources.
“Councilors are elected by the people to ensure development reaches the community. Yet, some resources remain unaccounted for,” he said.
Ogwang pressed for transparency, asking: “Where are the roads? Where are the repaired boreholes? How many schools have been supported? These are questions the councilors must answer.”
Community Applauds Ogwang’s Leadership
Despite the stern message to councilors, community members lauded Ogwang for his hands-on approach to development.
Longor Simon Peter, a local resident, said, “We are grateful for Hon. Ogwang’s tireless efforts. He has brought real change to our area.”
Adele Simon, LC1 Chairperson, added, “Through his efforts, new villages and parishes have been created, enabling more people to benefit from the Parish Development Model.”
Security And Peace Highlighted
Deputy RDC of Otuke District, Francis Okwameri, attributed the region’s progress to President Museveni’s commitment to peace and stability.
“People can now live without fear. Security is guaranteed, and this allows leaders like Hon. Ogwang to focus on development,” Okwameri noted.
Moving Forward
With the Ministry of Works on board, residents of Katakwi District now look forward to upgraded roads that will connect communities and boost economic activity.
However, the minister’s call for accountability reminds local leaders that development must go hand-in-hand with responsible governance.
