KATANGA WARD,KATAKWI TOWN COUNCIL- Katakwi Town Council today brimmed with song, colour and political fervour as residents poured into the streets to receive State Minister for Education and Sports and Ngariam County MP, Hon. Peter Ogwang, whose campaign stop evolved into a spontaneous endorsement of his five-year record in office.

Rather than routine campaign rhetoric, the day unfolded as a public scorecard—measured in livelihoods changed, groups empowered and confidence restored among ordinary citizens.

A Campaign Stop That Became a Referendum

From the moment Hon. Ogwang’s convoy entered the town, the mood signalled more than a courtesy welcome. Traders abandoned stalls, boda boda riders hooted in approval, and community leaders openly declared their backing, framing the visit as a referendum on performance rather than promises.

Residents repeatedly pointed to visible interventions in education, household incomes and community mobilisation, arguing that Ogwang’s leadership has been marked by delivery over declarations.

Women’s Voices Take Centre Stage

The most resounding endorsements came from women-led savings groups, beneficiaries of Hon. Ogwang’s UGX 1 billion women empowerment initiative.Under the programme, each of the 293 villages received Shs 3million across the constituency over the five-year period.

Women testified that the funds had unlocked small businesses, strengthened savings culture and reduced dependence on predatory lending.

Several described the support as the first time government intervention had directly touched their household economies in a meaningful way.
“This was not charity—it was capital,” remarked one group leader, summing up the prevailing sentiment.

From Representation to Results

Analysts observing the Katakwi stop noted a shift in campaign tone: less persuasion, more affirmation. Speakers repeatedly cited Ogwang’s accessibility, follow-up on community concerns, and alignment with broader government programmes while retaining a strong local focus.

As the campaign trail progresses, Katakwi Town Council’s reception suggests that Hon. Ogwang enters the next phase of the race buoyed by a narrative many politicians seek but few achieve—a constituency eager to defend his record on his behalf.

For now, the streets of Katakwi have spoken, and their message was unmistakably clear.
