LALEI PRIMARY SCHOOL,AKOBOI SUBCOUNTY-The scars of past conflict still linger in living memory, and it is against this backdrop that Ngariam County MP and Minister of State for Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, delivered a sobering message to voters in Katakwi District: peace is not an accident, it is a choice made at the ballot.
Addressing supporters at Lalei Primary School in Akoboi Subcounty, Ogwang linked the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to the hard-won stability that has allowed communities to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
Peace as the Foundation of Development
Ogwang stressed that peace remains the cornerstone of all development, warning that without it, progress in education, health, and wealth creation would grind to a halt. He reminded residents of the dark days of displacement, noting that instability once forced families into camps for internally displaced persons.
“Without peace, we would still be in the camps,” the minister said, urging voters to safeguard the stability that has enabled schools, roads, and health facilities to function.
A Warning to the Youth
Turning to young people, Ogwang cautioned them against being swayed by voices he described as disconnected from the realities of past insecurity. He urged the youth to learn from history and protect the gains achieved through peace.
“Young people should not be misled by individuals who have never experienced insecurity and have never lived in the camps,” he said, calling on them to vote with a clear understanding of what is at stake.
NRM’s Record and Roadmap
Ogwang highlighted the NRM manifesto, anchored on seven pillars including peace and security, education, health, water for production, wealth creation, and ICT. He argued that the party’s long-standing record demonstrates its capacity to deliver stability and sustained development.
By renewing their support for the NRM, Ogwang said, voters in Katakwi would be choosing continuity in peace and a future anchored in growth. His message struck a chord with the crowd, which responded with chants and applause in support of the ruling party.
