ARIAMARENG VILLAGE,AKOBOI SUBCOUNTY-The drumbeat of campaigns is growing louder in Ngariam County, but alongside the slogans and convoys, a worrying undertone of tension is beginning to surface. It is this creeping normalization of political aggression that leaders are now moving to confront, warning that elections must never come at the cost of peace and lives.

Ngariam County MP and Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports), Hon. Peter Ogwang, while addressing a rally in Ariamareng village, Aleles Parish, Akoboi Subcounty, condemned what he described as irresponsible mobilization of youth for violence by some political hopefuls. He warned that leadership anchored in intimidation has no future in a democratic society.

A Call to Reject Politics of Fear

“Some aspiring leaders are busy going on the media to rally people to prepare for violence. What type of leader is that?” Ogwang asked.

He urged voters to decisively reject such politics, adding, “Down with people who are fueling violence. We must lead by example by promoting peace.”

He further distanced himself and his campaign from any disorder, cautioning that anyone within his camp found engaging in violence would be dropped. “I disassociate myself from any acts of violence, and I will not support any of my team members who are violent,” he said.

Youth Cautioned Against Being Used

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kapelebyong District, Emmy Ojirot, reinforced the message by appealing directly to young people to resist being drawn into political confrontations. “Violence causes death, violence causes injuries, violence causes destruction of property. Why would we want to cause pain among ourselves and others?” Ojirot asked.

Peaceful Campaigns as the True Test of Leadership

Community leaders present welcomed the strong stance, describing it as timely as campaigns intensify. They noted that peaceful, issue-based engagement remains the true measure of leadership, expressing hope that all contenders will heed the call and allow voters to make their choice in an atmosphere free of fear and coercion.
