Student Killed, Teacher Injured in Police-UPDF Shooting Incident in Ngora

NGORA DISTRICT-A tragic incident occurred at Teso Progressive Academy in Ngora district on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, resulting in the death of a student and injury to a teacher.

According to South Kyoga Police, the incident involved a police officer, PC Ijobu Sylvia, and a UPDF soldier, Pte Atim Agnes, who were at the school to effect an arrest.

“It’s alleged that on 18/11/2025 at exactly 1009/c pc IJobu SYLVIA in company of Pte ATIM Agnes booked out to teso progressive academy vide NGORA SD ref 22/18/11/2025 after receiving a phone call from the director of the said school Omugur John”, the Police statement said.

It continued, “At the school they encountered resistance from OKIROR GABRIEL (deceased) which prompted Pte ATIM AGNES to forcefully grab the gun (AK 47) from pc IJobu SYLVIA and shot OKIROR GABRIEL on the chest and died instantly. In the process the same bullet struck a geography teacher hitting him in the chest. The injured teacher was immediately rushes to mbale for urgent medical attention.”

The matter was later reported at CPS vide SD ref 25/18/11/2025 ( NGORA CRB 352/2025).

 The student, identified as Okiror Gabriel, 20, allegedly resisted arrest, prompting Pte Atim Agnes to grab the gun from PC Ijobu Sylvia and shoot Okiror, who died instantly.

 The same bullet injured a geography teacher, Majja Bernard, who is currently receiving medical attention in Mbale.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects.
