SOROTI CITY — Anxiety remains high in Soroti City East following the emergency transfer of Rodney Akongel Mukula, a burgeoning political figure and aspiring legislator, to Kampala for advanced medical care after he was earlier admitted with suspected poisoning.

Mukula was initially rushed to Doctor’s Plaza in Soroti on Monday, where he received first-line treatment before doctors recommended an urgent transfer to a higher–level facility. According to updated information from his campaign team, he has now been evacuated to Kampala in an emergency ambulance staffed with two doctors and a nurse who are closely monitoring his condition en route.

In Kampala, preparations for his arrival intensified as Dr. Byaruhanga, a senior pathologist attached to the Uganda Police Force, was placed on standby to attend to Mukula immediately upon arrival. Authorities have not yet released official details on the nature of the suspected poisoning.

The campaign team earlier appealed for calm and continued prayers from the public, assuring supporters that efforts are underway to ensure Mukula receives the best possible care.

“We assure the people of Soroti City East and all well-wishers that we will get through this together. Our resolve for a united future and a new standard for our constituency remains strong,” the statement noted.

The incident, unfolding at a critical moment in Mukula’s mobilisation drive ahead of the 2026 polls, has drawn concern from community members, leaders and supporters, many of whom gathered at the Soroti facility before the transfer.

“We assure the people of Soroti City East and all well-wishers that we will get through this together. Our resolve for a united future and a new standard for our constituency remains strong,” the statement noted
