PHILIP OMONDI STADIUM-The Parliament of Uganda has continued to showcase its exceptional form in the ongoing East African Inter-Parliamentary Games, securing a decisive 2–1 win against Kenya. 

This latest triumph not only energized Ugandan supporters but also cemented Uganda’s position at the top of the tournament table with a total of six points.

The Parliament of Uganda team secured a crucial victory after Hon. Kabogo Twaha of Bukoto South Constituency in Lwengo District opened the scoring in the 45th minute as the strike marked his first goal in the regional tournament, prompting cheers from supporters.

“Every goal we score is not just for the team it is for the unity and pride of our nation,” Hon. Twaha remarked after the match.

The momentum grew stronger in the second half, Hon. John Lematia of Ayivu West Constituency in Arua City celebrated for becoming the first goal scorer in the East African Parliamentary Games, delivered yet another stunning performance. 

He netted his second goal of the tournament in the 71st minute, pushing Parliament of Uganda to 6 points and placing them firmly at the top of the rankings.

“This tournament is more than a competition; it is a reminder that leadership also means inspiring through action,” Hon. Lematia noted with pride.

As defending champions, the Ugandan team has demonstrated remarkable consistency, determination, and tactical discipline, sending a clear message that they are focused on retaining their title.

The much-anticipated match, described by many as a regional football “derby,” was today December 8, 2025 held at MTN Omondi Stadium, a venue that has grown increasingly electrified with each game played in the tournament. 

The atmosphere was charged with excitement, drawing thousands of enthusiastic supporters from across the East African community. Fans representing different countries filled the stands in vibrant colours, singing, cheering, and rallying behind their respective teams. 

This strong turnout not only reflected the popularity of the annual games but also highlighted the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and regional cooperation that the tournament seeks to promote.

Uganda’s victory was a product of skilful play, solid teamwork, and strategic precision. Throughout the match, the Ugandan side maintained control of the game, exhibiting both offensive creativity and defensive stability. 

Their ability to read the game and respond promptly to Kenya’s tactics gave them an upper hand, ultimately leading to the well-deserved win. Kenya, however, put up a resilient fight, demonstrating admirable energy and competitive spirit. Their strong attempts to equalize in the second half kept spectators on edge, making the match one of the most thrilling encounters of the tournament so far.

Speaking to _Ngariam Focus online_ after the match, the Minister of State for Education and Sports,Hon Peter Ogwang who is also one of the team’s lead strikers, praised the team’s discipline and unity. 

He emphasized that the victory reflected the wider ambition of Uganda’s sports sector and the spirit of teamwork driving the players.

“Our MPs have demonstrated that leadership goes beyond the chamber it extends to the field, where discipline and unity win games,” he said.

He concluded with a powerful message of inspiration, noting that “We are not just playing football; we are inspiring the next generation to believe in their abilities and rise to excellence.”

Since the official launch of the games on Sunday, December 6, the Ugandan parliamentary team has remained steadfast in its mission, displaying unmatched focus and unity. Their back-to-back victories have not only strengthened the confidence of the players but also heightened national pride among supporters. 

With the tournament gaining momentum and taking on an even more competitive dimension, all eyes are now on Uganda as it continues its journey to defend the championship title.

As the games progress, anticipation continues to build across the region. Supporters eagerly await the upcoming fixtures, hopeful that the spirit of togetherness and healthy competition will continue to shine through.
