Service, Structure And Sweat Deliver Historic NRM Victory
By Our Reporter | Ngariam Focus
KATAKWI TOWN COUNCIL-Ngariam County in Katakwi District did not just vote on polling day—it testified.
In an election that quickly turned into a procession rather than a contest, Hon. Peter Ogwang, the State Minister of Education and Sports (Sports) and NRM flagbearer, delivered a thunderous landslide, flattening a crowded field of challengers and reaffirming his political dominance in one of the most decisive outcomes the constituency has ever recorded.
When the dust settled and the Declaration of Results Form was signed by the Katakwi District Returning Officer, Stephen Makubuya, the verdict was brutal in its clarity: Ogwang had swept Ngariam County clean.

A Landslide Carved In Numbers
Out of 25,847 valid votes cast,Hon Ogwang amassed a staggering 20,372 votes, translating into nearly four-fifths of the entire electorate—a margin so wide it left no room for dispute, spin, or consolation.
His closest rival, Mulalu Daniel (Independent), limped in with 2,962 votes, while Otuko Augustine (Independent) followed with 1,952.
The rest barely registered on the political Richter scale:
Omiat Andrew Joseph (UPC) – 157
Eidit John Baptist (Independent) – 148
Ochailap Michael Akabwai (NUP) – 144
Apuda Ignatius Loyola (FDC) – 112
In brutal arithmetic, Hon Ogwang alone polled several times more votes than all his opponents combined—turning what was billed as a race into a referendum on leadership.
Why Ngariam Chose Hon Ogwang: Performance Over Noise
Political analysts and local leaders agree: this victory was earned long before ballots were printed.
Across Ngariam County`s 293 villages, Hon Ogwang’s footprint is visible, measurable, and personal. Each village benefited from Shs 3 million in direct community support, a rare reach that entrenched his presence at the grassroots.
From churches and mosques supported with iron sheets, cement and cash, to vulnerable women and youth groups empowered with goats, sheep, seed capital, and income-generating equipment—Ogwang’s politics has been felt, not merely heard.
“You cannot compete with a man whose work speaks in every village,” said Charles Ikabat, LC3 Chairperson of Okore Subcounty who is also Hon Ogwang’s Chief campaign manager.
“This victory belongs to the people because he served them consistently.”
Structure, Service And Staying Power
While others appeared seasonally, Ogwang remained constant.
As State Minister for Sports, his national stature translated into local pride, yet he never abandoned constituency work.
He opened over 50 kilometres of community access roads, lobbied for additional central government road funding, and pushed for seed secondary schools in Akoboi, Okore, Getom and Palam subcounties.
Health services improved through lobbying for Health Centre IIIs in new subcounties, donation of beds, and construction of additional structures, including at Aliakamer Health Centre II as well as upgrading of Ngariam Health Cneter111 to Health Center 1V.
In education, the record is heavy: over 30,000 textbooks, solar installations, computers for secondary schools, coding of new primary schools, and scholarships for bright but poor learners—some now qualified doctors.
Sports, Youth And The Ogwang Cup Effect
Sports became both a development tool and political bridge.
The annual Ogwang Cup, where the winning team walks away with Shs 15 million, has become a rallying point for youth engagement and unity—further cementing his appeal among first-time voters.
“Youth here didn’t vote slogans; they voted opportunity; as I speak now there is a footballer who was identified during Ogwang Cup and now plays for Entebbe based Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation,” boosted Adungo James, NRM Chairperson, Getom Subcounty.
Local Leaders Speak: ‘This Was Inevitable’
Across sub counties, the tone was unanimous.
Obukui, LC3 Chairperson Akoboi Subcounty, said the outcome was sealed by service.
“He invested in people—religious leaders, teachers’ SACCOs, boda-bodas, business groups. This was payback.”
Egwarat, LC3 Palam Subcounty, added:
“Others talked. Hon Ogwang delivered. That’s why the vote was overwhelming.”
Eilor, LC3 Chairperson Getom Subcounty, described the opposition as “spectators in a match already decided.”
Opponents Stranded By Reality
Despite their numbers on the ballot paper, Minister Ogwang’s challengers failed to build structures, penetrate villages, or articulate a compelling alternative.
Fragmented, under-resourced, and disconnected, they were simply outmatched by a record-driven campaign.
The election became less about competition and more about confirmation.
Ngariam County Celebrates, Ahead Confidently
As results streamed in, Ngariam County erupted. Victory songs rang through trading centres, NRM colours flooded the night, and spontaneous processions cut across villages.
“This was a thank-you vote,” said Stella Apio, a youth in Ocorimongin Trading Centre.
“We rewarded what we have seen.”
A Stronger Mandate, A Louder Voice
With this emphatic mandate, Hon. Peter Ogwang returns to Parliament and Cabinet politically fortified—armed with numbers, legitimacy, and renewed expectations.
For Ngariam County, the message is unmistakable: tested leadership over trial and error; delivery over drama; continuity over gamble.
And in this election, the people of Ngariam County wrote that message clearly—
boldly, decisively, and in overwhelming numbers.
