KAMPALA — Ngariam County MP Peter Ogwang has earned rare praise from *Chief Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija after being credited for playing a key role in Uganda’s successful bid to host the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking at a high-profile function in Kampala, Justice Zeija described Ogwang as a determined leader whose efforts helped Uganda achieve what had eluded the country for years.
“This is not something to be taken lightly. For all those years, Uganda was not able to lobby for the country to host AFCON, but Hon. Peter Ogwang managed to convince the whole of Africa to bring AFCON to Uganda,” the Chief Justice said.

His remarks sparked applause from guests, with many interpreting them as a strong endorsement of Ogwang’s growing influence both in sports administration and national leadership circles.
A Major Win for Uganda’s Sporting Ambitions
Uganda is among the East African nations set to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania — a historic milestone expected to boost tourism, infrastructure development and regional visibility.
Observers say Ogwang, who has been deeply involved in Uganda’s sports sector, played a visible role in lobbying efforts that culminated in the successful bid.
The Chief Justice noted that the achievement placed Uganda on a new continental pedestal and demonstrated that persistence in leadership can yield historic results.
Faith, Leadership and National Service
Justice Zeija also linked the milestone to faith, saying success is rooted in trust in God.
“Everything is gone because of believing in God the Almighty who does everything for us,” he said.
He urged leaders to remain humble and continue serving the country with integrity and commitment.
The comments added a spiritual dimension to what many viewed as a celebration of political and administrative achievement.
High-Profile Guests Grace Event
The event attracted several influential government officials and political leaders, underscoring its significance.
Among those in attendance were Evelyn Anite, Vincent Bagiire, the National Coordinator of the Parish Development Model, and the Omoro County MP, Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, alongside other invited guests.
For Ogwang, the recognition marks yet another moment in a political career increasingly defined by visibility beyond Ngariam County — with supporters describing him as a leader whose influence is steadily expanding from local politics to the national stage.
